The short version
GrowHaus contains affiliate links. When you click one and buy something, GrowHaus earns a small commission — at no extra cost to you. This is how the site partially supports itself.
Which affiliate program do you use?
GrowHaus uses the Amazon Associates program. Every product link on the site that leads to Amazon carries the affiliate tag kristianmil03-20. This tag identifies GrowHaus as the referrer, so Amazon can credit any resulting purchases to our account.
Currently, all affiliate links on GrowHaus go to Amazon.com using this tag.
How affiliate links appear on the site
You'll see affiliate-linked products in several places:
- Product recommendation cards on content pages (e.g., "Top 5 picks for greenhouse heating")
- Individual product mentions within articles, usually with a brief explanation of why we recommend it
- Any "Best for [use case]" type list
Affiliate links are marked with a tooltip or label on hover that says "Affiliate link — see our disclosure." You can also identify them because they go to an Amazon product page and contain kristianmil03-20 in the URL.
Do commissions affect what you recommend?
No. We only recommend products we'd actually use or believe in. The commission structure does not create incentive to prefer one product over another — if anything, the opposite: a cheap, low-quality product that earns a large commission would hurt trust more than it would help revenue.
We choose products based on:
- Personal experience with the product, or a brand we trust
- Positive owner reviews and reputation
- Value for money — not the highest commission
- Relevance to the specific growing problem or need we are addressing
If a product stops being good, we remove it — regardless of its commission rate.
Editorial independence
Affiliate commissions do not change editorial decisions. We don't accept payment to review products, feature them, or move them up in lists. If a product is genuinely poor, we say so — even if it would earn us money to recommend it.
The About page, founder story, and community sections contain no affiliate links.
How Amazon Associates works
When you click an affiliate link and buy something on Amazon within 24 hours, the sale is tracked via the kristianmil03-20 tag. Amazon pays GrowHaus a small percentage of the sale total — typically between 1% and 10% depending on the product category.
Amazon's commission rates are set by Amazon and can change at any time. GrowHaus has no control over this.
Cookie duration: Amazon Associates tracks clicks for 24 hours. If you buy something within 24 hours of clicking our link, the commission is credited. After 24 hours, the cookie expires and future purchases are not attributed to GrowHaus.
Why affiliate links are used
GrowHaus is free to use. The site costs money to run (hosting, email delivery, analytics, domain renewal). Affiliate commissions are one of the ways the site covers these costs without charging users.
Donations via Stripe are another way people support the site. Neither is required to access any content.
